Slip Into A Dream

Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames

Delmark 2015

Review by David Bowling

Dave Weld is Chicago bred and spent part of his youth listening to old blues 78’s. Guitar lessons followed, which led to a life playing the blues. He has now returned with a new album titled Slip Into A Dream.

Weld and vocalist Monica Myhre wrote or co-write 11 of the 13 tracks. Weld on guitar/vocals plus vocals on several tracks by Myhre are supported by a cadre of musicians including brass and keyboards, which gives the music a full sound.

The first ten minutes establish the band’s sound. The album blasts off with a straight blues tune “Slip Into A Dream.” The band then morphs into a rocking “Sweet Rockin’ Soul.” Looking For A Man” has Myhre on lead vocals and Weld backing her with some tasty slide guitar. The brass attack on “Take Me Back” give the song some funky twists. “Sweet Louise (Dulce Amor)” has a nice laid back R&B vibe.

Slip Into A Dream by David Weld is an album of solid modern day blues. A great way to spend an hour or so,
