Blues In Good Hands

Review by David Bowling
Mighty Mike Schermer has been producing his brand of modern day electric blues on the road and in the studio for 20 years. He has now released his sixth studio album, Blues In Good Hands.
The singer/guitarist/songwriter has produced an album of original songs that fuses the blues with some funky, rock, and jazz rhythms. “Baby Don’t Stop” and “Heaven’s On The Other Side” have a nice rhythm & blues vibe beneath their blues surface. “World Gone Crazy” has a smooth jazz feel. “Barkin’ Up The Wrong Tree,” “Baby Be Kind,” “Hear You Call Him Baby,” and the title track are all modern-day blues as it should be.
Schermer has spent time as a sideman to such musicians as Elvin Bishop, Marcia Ball, Maria Muldaur, Horward Tate, and Charlie Musselwhite among others but it is always a treat when he steps forward on his own.
Blues In Good Hands is an apt title for Schermer’s new album.
