Narada Michael Walden
Review by David Bowling
Narada Michael Walden has had a stellar career as a drummer, producer, singer, and songwriter. A noted drummer who has played with John McLaughlin, Jeff Beck, and Tommy Bolin, the writer or co-writer of 20 number one hits, and a producer who has worked with the cream of American musicians; he has now returned with his 13th solo album.
He has reached back to his past for an album of dance, soul, and funk music. The modern twist is the spiritual elements that runs through the 11 original tracks and two covers. The title tracks best shows this approach best as it is a song of thanksgiving for his life’s journey.
The two cover songs, Richie Havens’ “Freedom” and The Beatles “The Long And Winding Road” and given a gentle treatment and fit the theme of the album well.
Walden has released an album for the mind and the soul. One of the better outings of his long and illustrious career.
